During my recent vacation, I went back to my country and met my friends, teachers, and relatives. They asked me about my school life and culture in the USA. they asked me a bunch of questions. Here’s a typical conversation with them:

“What do you study there?”
“Media Design-.”
“What’s that? Is it about web design or interactive design? ”
“hm….yeah, we do that all, but there’s more. We learn a lot of things. Most of all, I think I’ve been learning about design research.”
“oh, design research! It sounds cool. But what is that? Is it research about design?”
“no, it’s not.”
“hmm…then what? Are you becoming a researcher? What’s the difference between design research and other research?”
“we use Probes as a research tool.”
“wow. Mm…what’s Probe?”
“Well, you know what? Since I’ve been learning and describing design research in English, it’s really hard for me to explain that in Korean. sorry.”
“O..k-kay.”
